Establishment
The zoo was established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1968. Our zoo is one of the most important and diverse tourism attractions on both local and global level.

As the largest zoo of its type in the Middle East, and for more than 50 years, our zoo has continued to convey the pioneering vision of the late Sheikh Zayed, demonstrating his keenness to preserve wildlife in the United Arab Emirates by preserving the environment and sustaining its resources in accordance with the best global standards.

Vision & Mission
Our zoo reflects the pioneering environmental vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his keenness to strengthen our affiliation to our country, and to enhance cultural, historical, and environmental heritage.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan linked the concept of heritage to the unique relationship between the Emirati people and their land. Thus in preserving the environment, the legacy of our ancestors is preserved.

We aim to achieve this vision by hosting many different types of animals, providing them with an environment that guarantees their survival, preserving them and populating them. The zoo provides a chance to see some endangered species preserved and taken care of within habitats similar to their own, as well as a chance to even interact with them. In addition to having a fun adventure, the zoo provides an educational experience on the importance of finding a safe haven for those species. We also provide support to the academic community (schools and universities), we take on a pioneering role of increasing awareness on rescuing those species and caring for them.
