the Ofot railway
At the end of the 19th century, the construction of the Ofot Railway started up, in order to create an ice-free port for the rich iron ore deposits from northern Sweden. The construction, which was completed at the beginning of the 20th century, offered great opportunities for itinerant workers (so-called rallers) who were looking for new ways to earn a living. At the most, 5,000 people were involved in the railway construction. Today, we offer several exciting tours along the Ofot Railway. Chase the Northern Lights in the evening, or enjoy the winter covered landscape during the day. We also offer charter options – book the entire train and tailor the experience.
